5-year-old pupil killed by unknown assailant

Residents of New Akrade in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern region were over the weekend thrown into a state of shock when the lifeless body of a five-year-old pupil of Trends International School, Richard Owusu, was seen in a fertilizer sack floating on the Volta River.

The hands and legs of Owusu were tied with a rope with marks of syringe believed to have been used by his assailants to suck the blood of the deceased.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the VRA Hospital morgue pending autopsy. Daily Heritage learnt that, on Thursday afternoon after school, the deceased left the house to play football with his friends in the community; however, he did not return.

A search and announcements by the local media yielded no results until the following morning when fisherman in the area spotted a heavy but floating sack on the Volta River, grabbed and opened it, only to see the body of the deceased in the sack with the hand and legs tied together with a rope.

The police were subsequently informed and the body was taken to the VRA hospital after taking inventories.

DSP Kwaku Osei, the Akosombo district commander told the paper that, investigations are ongoing; however, no arrest has been made. He assured residents to remain calm as the perpetrators would definitely be apprehended.
