The Ahanta West Municipal Police Command in the Western Region has detained six individuals for the alleged murder of 60-year-old Isaac Ansah.
The victim was reportedly set on fire in Achonwa, a community where he had lived for over two years.
The arrest followed a disturbing event on Thursday, June 27, 2024, when a mob acted on claims made by a local fetish priest.
The priest accused Ansah of submitting the names of 14 community members for sacrificial killing.
Mr. Frank Eshun, Ansah's nephew, told Channel One TV that the suspects include prominent community members such as Nana Ojandi, the Caretaker Chief, Godfred Cudjoe, the Assemblyman, the Fetish Priest, the Chief Fisherman, and two others.
The violence erupted after a fruitless meeting between Ansah and the town elders. The community's youth, fueled by rage, seized Ansah, bound him, pelted him with stones, and ultimately set him ablaze using car tyres and petrol.
Eshun expressed the family's anguish over the loss and called for justice.
According to him, the sight of animals scavenging on his uncle's remains has left him deeply troubled.
Isaac Ansah's body has since been moved to the mortuary for an autopsy. Amidst their grief, the family hopes for a peaceful final resting place for their loved one.
