70-year-old tailor defiles 13-year-old girl

Accra, May 19, GNA - A 70-year-old tailor who allegedly defiled a 13-year-old pupil on Tuesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for an alleged defilement.

Ibrahim Ayisi pleaded not guilty and the court presided over by Mr C.A. Wilson remanded him into police custody to re-appear on June 4. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Lawrence Gbele, prosecuting said the accused and victim lived at the same area in Accra. He said on May 9, this year, while the victim was returning home at about 1830 hours after selling plastic wares the accused lured her into his room and defiled her.

The prosecution said after the act, Ayisi offered the victim GH¢1 and asked her to keep the ordeal to herself. He said the victim, however, experienced abdominal pains and informed her parents about the act. The prosecution said victim's parents reported the matter to the police who issued a medical form for examination while the accused was arrested and after investigations charged with the offence. In a related development, the same court has remanded Joseph Mensah a 51-year-old unemployed for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old pupil. Mensah pleaded not guilty to defilement and would re-appear on June 8.

ASP Gbele told the court that the victim lived with her mother at James Town while the accused lived at Korle Gonnor in Accra. He said on May 5, this year, at 1530 hours the accused visited his uncle and while returning home, saw the victim playing and took her into his room at Korle Gonnor and inserted his fingers into her private part and later defiled her.

The prosecution said after the act, at about 1930 hours, the accused managed to put the victim into a commercial vehicle and instructed that she should alight at a spot near her home. He said on reaching home, the victim informed her mother about the conduct of the accused. The prosecution said on May 7, Mensah went to James Town to invite the victim again but she quietly informed her mother and was arrested.
