Two senior officers and 12 police personnel from the Ashaiman Police have embarked on a swoop to arrest eight suspects at Malian Estate, a suburb of Ashaiman.

The suspects are Edmund Kobina, 30, Adamu lssah, 42, Ezekiel Kwesi Quarshie, 24, Faisal Alhassan, 29, Mohammed Lambo, 40, Nana Yaw Freiku, 24, Seidu Yusif, 29, and Mutalla Ahmed, 24, all residents of Ashaiman.

According to the police, the operation, which targeted hideouts of criminals, was led by Chief Superintendent F.N Adika, the Divisional Police Commander of Ashaiman.

The dawn operation was aimed at riding Ashaiman of criminals.

The eight suspects have consequently been charged with unlawful possession of narcotics and use of narcotic.

Some of the suspects were on the police wanted list and they would be properly screened for other offences.

One hundred and fifty-six wrappers of suspected cocaine and one compressed parcel of dried believed to be Indian Hemp were found on them.

A pair of scissors, jack knives, razor blades, packets of matches and crow bars were found on some of the suspects.

The exhibits have been forwarded to the Police Forensic Laboratory for examination while investigations continue.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Herbert Sosu, Crime Officer of the Ashaiman District Police Headquarters, who confirmed the operation to DAILY GUIDE, explained that they embarked on the swoop due to persistent harassment of residents of Mali Estate by drug users.

According to him, the exercise would be sustained to ensure that law-abiding citizens go about their daily activities freely in the municipality.

He appealed to the public to provide police with information on hideouts and activities of criminals so they can be arrested and dealt with according to the law.
