90% of prophets are fake; they are mediums and psychics - Mensa Otabil

The Founder and General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Dr. Mensa Otabil, has asserted that about 90% of people who call themselves men of God and prophets, in African countries including Ghana, are fake.

According to Mensa Otabil, these prophets and men of God can’t be serving the God Almighty and can only be serving other gods because of the lives they live.

He said that these so-called prophets do not live Christ-like lives and engage in all vices, including adultery and drunkenness, with some even cursing people and wishing them dead in the name of God.

The founder of ICGC, who made these remarks during a sermon on November 17, 2024, added that no true man of God would ask God to kill another person.

He also said that mediums and psychics like prophets can also say things that would come to pass, but that does not mean that they are followers of Jesus Christ, the Lord and Saviour of Christians.

“My personal view is that the majority, not all, and when I say majority, I’m saying a high proportion, probably in the 90s of percentiles of people who call themselves prophets in Africa today are mediums and psychics, a large proportion. Psychics can also say things that are true. And Jesus is going to say, you prophesied in my name. I never knew you. How are we going to know whether they are psychics or true prophets? You are going to know it by whether they are living for Jesus.

“If the person is not living for Jesus, his life is totally at variance with the words of Jesus Christ. They are using their gift to curse people, to destroy people, to try and disgrace other people. They are praying what they call dangerous prayers—dangerous prayers, dangerous to destroy other people. Which spirit is answering the dangerous prayer? If I pray that another church member should die by fire, who should answer that? Who? Jesus. Who is supposed to answer that prayer? You put it out there. Who is supposed to enforce it? Is it Jesus who died for them, shed his blood for them, redeemed them, gave them eternal life, and put his spirit in them?

He added, “This same Jesus should say that you are so much in the Trinity, you are actually the quadrennial. You are the fourth person of the Trinity. So much so that now he has to now honour your word because you are killing other believers and destroying other believers and cursing church members and you suppose that it is of God or you are prophesying supposedly and telling all kinds of things. But your lifestyle is so far away from the Christian life, you are committing multiple adultery, multiple fornication, multiple drunkenness, multiple this, multiple that. I’m not saying everybody is perfect, but everybody must aim to live a Christ-like life.”

Dr. Otabil said that God, on the final day, is going to reject these so-called men of God, who have been doing all kinds of things in his name.

“People say we prophesied in your name, we cast out demons in your name, we did wonders in your name, and He (Jesus) says, I never knew you. Is it possible for people to work, cast out demons, prophesy, do wonders, and still be rejected by God? Well, according to Jesus, yes. Because there are many people who are doing so-called miracles with wrong spirits and have attached the name of Jesus to them.

“It is impossible for Christians or pastors to curse one another and say they are doing it in the name of Jesus. Which Jesus? When a pastor curses another pastor or a pastor curses his members who are believers in Christ, who is going to implement the curse? Who is it? Jesus? Jesus says, oh, I love you because you are a pastor. So if you curse the one I bought with my blood, I will go and destroy him,” he reiterated.
