90 year-old drug pusher jailed

Goaso (B/A), March 12, GNA - A circuit court at Goaso has sentenced a 90 year-old farmer, Kojo Issifu, to five years imprisonment for selling Indian hemp at Acherensua in Asutifi district of Brong-Ahafo. Police Chief Inspector Ben Brew told the crowded court, presided over by Mr. Charles Quampah, that the police had a tip-off that Issifu was selling Indian hemp at his residence.

He said a search by the police in the house of the convict revealed parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and was arrested. The dried leaves were sent to the police forensic laboratory, which proved to be Indian hemp, the prosecutor added.

Mr. Quampah advised that people who attain such advanced ages should rather use their experience to educate the young against unproductive and destructive lifestyles.

He expressed the hope that the five years jail term would serve as deterrent to like-minded persons.
