Akrofrom (Ash), June 23, GNA- A school building for the Kobi Afriyie Junior Secondary School (JSS) was on Friday commissioned at Akrofrom near Afari in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District of Ashanti. Mr. Michael Nsiah, Director of Miklin Hotel in Kumasi, and the wife, solely financed the project The block consists of three classrooms, computer laboratory, library, staff common room, store, office and toilet.
Commissioning the block, Mr. Osei Assibey-Antwi, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, commended Mr. Nsiah and his wife for their contribution to the development of education in the area and urged other philanthropists to assist the school. Mr Assibey-Antwi appealed to the people to maintain the building so that it could last long.
Mr Twumasi Ampofo, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Sports, said government was committed to developing the human resource base towards the national development. He said the provision of good education would empower the people especially the youth to overcome poverty, illiteracy and raise their living standard. Mr. Ampofo reiterated that government would empower the youth to be creative to enable them adapt to scientific and technological advancement.
Mr. Thomas Ofori Donkor, the District Chief Executive, said the assembly had put up a three-unit classroom block each at Abira-Nkoteng, Aninkroma, Kyereyaase, Amanchia, Ntabaanu and another six-unit block at Nkatia, all in the district. He said the assembly would provided the JSS with furniture and rehabilitate the old two classrooms of the school. Mr. Nsiah said the provision of the block would become meaningless if parents failed to send their children to school. He appealed to the assembly to provide the school with computers for the laboratory.
Nana Dufie Ankra I, Queen of Akrofrom, commended Mr. Nsiah and his wife for the gesture and appealed to the assembly to repair the one-kilometre road linking Afari with the town to facilitate economic activities.
