A-Life Case Adjourned

Accra The Circuit Tribunal in Accra trying the A-Life case today adjourned to Wednesday, June 18. The adjournment was at the instance of the prosecution which informed the tribunal that it has not yet received the docket on the case which it forwarded to the Attorney-General's office for advice. The court is trying Nana Yaw Oduro, Managing Director of A-Life Supermarket Trading Company Limited, and seven bank officials of the Kumasi-Kejetia branch of the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB). The bank officials are John Kwaku Sackey, Area Manager of the Kumasi Zone, Lawrence Kwame Wiredu, Branch Manager, and Samuel Antwi Baryeh, Officer One. The rest are Samuel Kwaku Frimpong, Chief Clerk at the Counter Services, Angelina Domfeh, ledger keeper, Nana Kani Owusu Addai, Deputy Area Manager and Rosemary Owusu, Chief Clerk at the counter services. The accused persons are alleged to have caused financial loss running into billions of cedis to the bank between October and November last year. The prosecution's case is that Nana Yaw Oduro allegedly lodged several cheques running into billions of cedis in his company's account at the bank which were instantly given value by the bank. The prosecution says Wiredu, with the active participation of the others, ignored the bank's directives and purchased cheques from certain establishments running into billions of cedis.
