Former President John Dramani Mahama has said he cannot believe that Mr Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, who served as his deputy during his tenure, is dead, one week after the announcement of his passing.

According to Mr Mahama, “Paa Kwesi served with distinction as Vice-President, and was an efficient Governor of the Bank of Ghana”.

Mr Amissah-Arthur collapsed at the Airforce Gym during a morning workout session and was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital where he was pronounced dead on Friday, 29 June 2018.

On Friday, 6 July 2018, Mr Mahama took to his Facebook wall and wrote:

“It is already a week and I still recall vividly my shock when my assistant broke the sad news shortly after I stepped off a flight in Munich. The time spent seeking confirmation and praying that it wasn't true was one of the longest waits one has experienced”.

Meanwhile, President Nana Akufo-Addo has announced a state of national mourning and all Ghana flags are flying at half-mast in honour of the late vice-president.

Mr Akufo-Addo also said Mr Amissah-Arthur will receive a state burial and assured the family of his support.
