The Association of Concerned Ghanaians in Europe (ACGIE) joins millions of people across the globe in commending Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo the Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for accepting the Supreme verdict delivered on August 29 2013.
ACGIE wants to place on record our gratitude and appreciation to Nana Akuffo-Addo for his courage and patriotism which have helped to avert the social unrest and political upheaval that could have been visited on our dear country. It is in this light that all Ghanaians irrespective of our political affiliation should join hands in celebrating Akuffo-Addo for his invaluable role in ensuring peace and stability in Ghana.
The political maturity and statesmanship demonstrated by Nana Akuffo-Addo has made not just Ghanaians but Africans and the entire Black race very proud. In recent times post-election violence has been the norm rather than the exception in most African countries. This unfortunate trend has reinforced the widely-held perception that we Africans cannot resolve our political differences/election disputes without recourse to violence.
Against this backdrop, ACGIE finds the decision by Nana Akuffo-Addo to proceed to the court for a resolution of the election dispute and also accepting the verdict of the Supreme Court as very inspiring and exemplary. Indeed, by so doing the NPP Presidential candidate has put the interest of the nation above and beyond his own political ambition.
ACGIE notes with pride that this action by Nana Akuffo-Addo apart from strengthening democracy and the rule of law, it has also the set the pace and standard for other political leaders across the continent to follow. In effect the message and indeed the lessons for ALL political actors world-wide is that it is possible to resolve political differences peacefully without violent confrontation and its attendant loss of life and property.
LONG LIVE GHANA
