The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), has called on the Electoral Commission to as a matter of urgency, reach an agreement with the principal stakeholders in the ongoing elections before results are finally declared.
According to the pro-NPP pressure group, this will ensure that all political parties accept the results of the ongoing elections in good faith.
“While we all joined Ghanaians in embracing the biometric system; it is important to make the point that the anomalies recorded at various polling stations across the country are so grave and therefore has the tendency to undermine the credibility of the results,” AFAG noted in a statement on Friday.
“It is clear that the several hours wasted at the various polling stations as a result of breakdown of verification machines has or stands to disenfranchise most eligible voters for no fault of theirs. Our rounds for example indicated that at comm. 8 Tema, Maradex School Gbawe, Trobu , Agyei Kuma in Tema West, St. Nicholas Academy etc. several voters stand the risk of being disenfranchised. This is inimical to the exercise and must therefore be addressed urgently”. AFAG suggests the EC picks verification machines from centres which have wrapped up voting to centres which have difficulties to address the challenge".
The group commended “all Ghanaians for the keen interest they have showed and continuously show in the exercise”.
“This is commendable and testament of the fact that, the Ghanaian people have embraced the democratic ideal of selecting their leaders through the ballot”.
