The upcoming AFLATON (African Furniture, Lighting & Accessories Trade
Exhibition) scheduled for March 5 to 31, 2024, is poised to be a significant platform for showcasing the production of interior furniture, lighting, and accessories, within the construction industry.

The initiative is the brainchild of Delilah Mercer, a pioneer of interior design in Ghana for over 30 years, and Selassie Tetevie, a renowned designer of Afri-centric furniture in Ghana for over 40 years. This initiative aims to address various challenges faced by producers and those who purchase these items for their homes, hotels, offices, etc.

The exhibition is designed to solve, although in the short term, several pressing issues within the industry. One of these issues is that small/medium-scale producers often encounter difficulties in marketing their products due to the high cost of rental space and lack of visibility. Additionally, connecting with customers including professionals who source for their clients has proven to be cumbersome.

On the other hand, purchasers often struggle with sourcing these items, especially as accent pieces are enriched with our cultural elements. The organizers also believe that the Trade Exhibition will be a catalyst in supporting local industry to foster its growth.

The exhibition will be held at the Museum of Science & Technology, Accra, from Mondays to Saturdays from 9 am to 4 pm. It will be open on Sundays from 12 pm to 4 pm. The exhibition extends invitations to stakeholders in the construction
industry.

We also encourage students of tertiary institutions with construction backgrounds, to come and view possible career opportunities.

Suggested items as exhibits include; Chairs (occasional), stools, bedroom benches, tables (occasional), chests of drawers/Sideboards, headboards (decorative) doors (solid and decorative), planters, lamps & pendants, mirrors, and cushions/throws.

This exhibition is expected to be a pivotal event, providing a comprehensive platform for the producer and purchaser to connect and collaborate within the industry. With a focus on promoting local industry growth, and showcasing our Afri-centric inspired designs of functional products for interiors, it is going to be a significant gathering of design enthusiasts.
