AG orders prosecution of six for alleged attempting murder

Agona Swedru, July 22, GNA- The Attorney General (AG) has ordered the arrest and prosecution of the six people who allegedly conspired to kill Nai Kwashie Amankwando, Chief of Awutu Adawukwa in the Central Region.

They are Kofi Ashiyaw Abusuapanyi, Adjoa Addea, Kojo Bonnie, Kobina Tawiah, Kwame Badu and Kofi Aseidu (alias 99).

A source closed to the Agona Swedru District Police Command told the Ghana News Agency(GNA), that the Attorney General Department and Ministry of Justice has brought the order for the prosecution of the six people who allegedly attempted to murder the Chief in 2005 over a land dispute.

According to the Police source, on 23 December 2003, an unidentified gun man shot Nai Amakwandoh in his living room in the evening at Awutu Adawukwa.

Kojo Bonnie was arrested and five others went into hiding after the shooting, the source said.

Nai Amankwandoh was sent to the Agona Swedru Government Hospital and later referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for further treatment, the source stated.

The source disclosed that the investigations of the alleged gun shot led to the arrest of the five people, but the docket was sent to the Attorney General's department for further advice.

The source said the Swedru District Police Command had received the docket from the AG's office and was working hard to prepare for court. According to the Police source there was a land dispute between the Chief and the six people.
