The Chief Executive of Ashanti Goldfields Company, Sam Jonah has been appointed Board Chairman of the national carrier, Ghana Airways. Mr. Jonah and his team replace the former board chaired by Mrs Victoria Adday, who together with the Chief Executive, tendered in their resignation.
The Minister for Transport and communications Felix Owusu Agyapong who confirmed Mr. Jonah’s appointment to JOY Business Report said, his ministry expects the board to come up with its preliminary findings based on which, the future of the airline would be fashioned.
Some appointments made by the former Chief Executive prior to his resignation have also been reversed. According to Mr.Owusu-Agyapong the ministry decided to revoke the new appointments because, “ it is not good business and administrative practice that having tendered in your resignation, you begin to make changes to the structure, which may commit the new administration and it is not too fair to tell somebody that you were appointed six months ago but I’m changing your position because I have found it wrong. It is not too good. So we wanted him to give free hand to the incoming administration so that they can study whatever it is and then make their decisions.”
The minister said the former Chief Executive Chief Executive would be meeting the new administration so that if he has any good reason for making the appointments he can justify them with the new administration.
