AIDS campaign launched in the Ashanti region

Sabronum (Ash), June 18, GNA - Ghanaians have been advised to be faithful to their partners and use to condoms to protect themselves against the deadly AIDS disease. They should also ensure that only sterilised needles and syringes are used for injections.

Mr Edwin Hayford Appeaning, Ashanti Regional Information Officer, gave the advice during the launching of this year's National First Phase Campaign against AIDS at Sabronum in the Ashanti Region.

He explained that many people infected with HIV look and feel healthy for many years before showing signs of the disease and said this is the reason why Ghanaians should stay with their partners.

The Ghana Social Marketing Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication, National AIDS Control Programme and John Hopkins University in USA, are sponsoring the campaign. The Regional Information Officer said that AIDS Awareness Campaign teams would visit the 18 districts in the region during the one-month period.

Mr Anthony Kusi, District Chief Executive commended the sponsors of the programme for their efforts and asked the people not to shun people infected with HIV/AIDS.
