Accra, Jan. 30, GNA - Total Oil Ghana Limited on Friday donated fuel coupons worth GH¢6,075 to Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) in support of the assembly's clean-up exercise in the Accra Metropolis on Saturday. The coupons would be used to fuel the tipper trucks that would be used during the exercise.
Mr Jonas Ayi, Executive Director of Total Oil Ghana Limited, said his outfit received a request for support in terms of fuel from the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) whose tipper trucks AMA would be using for the exercise. "Upon receiving the request we decided to support the AMA to embark on such a laudable exercise," he said.
Mr Alexis Thelemaque, Marketing Manager of Total Oil Ghana Limited, gave the assurance that the company would work in partnership with its stakeholders to promote community health and safety. "Good development goes with a clean environment so Ghanaians need to witness socio-economic development in safe, clean and healthy communities."
Mr Isaac Tetteh Adjovu, Metro Coordinating Director of AMA, said only 20 per cent of residents in the capital paid for the collection and management of garbage. He said AMA would soon introduce "The Polluter Pays" system, which would ensure that all residents in Accra paid for the collection and management of refuse by the assembly. "Government alone cannot bear the cost of collecting and managing refuse and it is becoming an expensive venture so we need support from the general public," Mr Adjovu said. He called for an end to indiscriminate littering by passengers and appealed to drivers to keep litter containers in their vehicles.
