AMA to Prosecute Offenders of Public Health Bye-Law

More than 50 food vendors and purified water companies have been listed for prosecution for violating the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) public health bye-laws.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency the acing Director of the Public Health Department, Mr. Emmanuel Akrofi Bruce said the culprits have no valid health certificate which entitles them to sell to the public. He said hotel and restaurant operators would be the next targets to ensure that all persons engaged in the food and catering service comply with the assembly's public health regulations.

Mr. Bruce said reports of cholera, tuberculosis and typhoid outbreaks could be attributed to lack of proper food preservation by vendors including hotels and restaurants.

He said his department has drawn up a programme to inspect the health certificate of operators and arrest and prosecute offenders.
