AMA to honour 'Big Six'

Accra April 28, GNA - The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Friday said it intends to build a Hall of Fame behind the Accra Sports Stadium in honour of the nation's heroes.

The hall would house the statues of the big six - Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Edward Akuffo Addo; J. B Danquah, William Ofori Atta, Obtsebi Lamptey, Ako Agyei and Paa Grant.

Interacting with the media in Accra, Mr Stanley Nii Adjiri Blankson, Chief Executive Officer of AMA, said the Assembly the proposed model would be shown to the sub-committee of Cabinet. "Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the project when approved would take off soon," he said.

The Mayor commended Ghana Telecom and Areeba for rehabilitating some major roundabout in the City.

He said while Ghana Telecom had promised to rehabilitate the roundabouts at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Areeba was also renovating the Obetsebi Lamptey Circle.

Other roundabouts that had been earmarked for renovation include Dansoman Club 250, and the one near the Togo Embassy. On streetlights, the Mayor said it was the responsibility of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

On the hawker's market complex at Odawna, the Mayor advised traders not to pay any monies to unscrupulous persons.

Mr Blankson said the Assembly had not instructed any person to take monies for sheds or for the processing of any documents before they were given sheds.

"It may happen that we may not take anything and even if the Assembly would take anything at all it would a token."
