The Association of Professional Development Communicators-Ghana (APDC-Ghana) was officially launched on Friday, July 5, with a mission to ensure sustainable development across key sectors of the country.

Speaking as a special guest of honour, Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana H.E. Maher Kheir commended the timely initiative.

He noted that, like many nations, Ghana faces a wide range of problems where communicators can contribute to societal growth.

“Indeed, the initiative is very timely for the progress of Ghanaian society. Like many countries around the world, Ghana has its share of a wide range of problems. I believe that communicators contribute to societal growth,” he said.

In her speech at the GNAT Hall, APDC-Ghana President Ruth Abanga laid out a vision for a sustainably developed Ghana, with universal access to basic amenities like healthcare, clean water, and roads, as well as greater peace, security, inclusiveness, and equality.

"We aim to strategically communicate while inspiring a holistic global community and shared values for inclusive and resilient societies," Mrs. Abanga said.

Rebecca Ekpe, Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Journalists Association, urged the new group to make capacity building a priority and remain vigilant against disinformation and propaganda.

"Make sure you do not become a tool for propaganda," Ekpe advised.

APDC-Ghana will focus on development sectors including health, education, agriculture, and the environment.

Its objectives incorporate researching effective communication techniques, building skills, advocating for marginalized voices, and promoting behaviour change through cross-cultural outreach.

The Association hopes to utilize diverse communication methods and forge partnerships to address Ghana's development challenges.
