Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency in the Volta Region, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has called on teachers in the various public schools in his constituency not to seek transfer from the schools.

According to him, it has come to his attention that many teachers in the area have applied for transfers to leave the North Tongu enclave as a result of the Akosombo and Kpong dam spillages, which sadly occurred in 2023.

"It has come to my notice that teachers have applied for a transfer. But I want to appeal to you to please reconsider your decision and stay with us," he said.

Ablakwa mentioned this on Monday, May 6, 2024, at Mepe Roman Catholic Primary School, during a donation ceremony by the not-for-profit organization Pencils of Promise (POP).

"I know that you are feeling the wrath that this disaster has brought upon us, I know you've suffered; I know you're not happy, and all of us are traumatized. But the students need you," he said.

According to the MP, his office has supported teachers who were affected by the flood in cash and kind.

"Recently, I've provided a rent allowance for about 167 affected teachers; if we were not thinking about you, we wouldn't have done that. We've made sure that with the relief items that have come in, some teachers have benefited from these items."

"The students and those who are at the Colleges of Education and those who volunteered to teach in the camps, we provided scholarships, fifty of them, a full scholarship from the MP's coffers. Please help us too; stay with us," he added.

According to the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), about 130,000 residents were affected by the floods in the North Tongu district.

Teachers, students, and school buildings were not spared by the spillage.

However, Pencils of Promise is working in the entire Tongu enclave to reshape education for the people.
