The Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has shared documents of more single-sourced road contracts offered to Resources Access Limited, a company allegedly owned by the "brothers" of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; Abraham and Kaminska Bawumia.
It can be recalled that the MP, in February 2024, accused Dr Bawumia, who is the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), of being disingenuous to Ghanaians with his promise to end unmerited single-sourcing of government contracts.
His investigation shows that out of the 87% sole-sourced cocoa road contracts, two contracts worth over GH¢83 million were awarded to a company owned by Bawumia's brothers, all within a day.
Ablakwa has now shared more documents of sole-sourced contracts offered to same 'Bawumia Brothers.'
The new documents show that Resources Access Limited was offered single-sourced contracts including the Rehabilitation of selected roads at Teshie Camp, Southern Command, Military Academy Training School Roads (23.45KM & 55,000M2); the Partial Reconstruction of Selected Roads in Accra - LOT 1 (44.49KM); and the Construction of Sunyani Bypass Outer Ring from the Kumasi Berekum Road.
"When the other single-sourced, inflated cocoa road contract is added, Resources Access Limited, in a few years, has grabbed a colossal GH¢166,768,904 in government single-source contracts and payments," the MP wrote in a post shared on X.
The North Tongu legislator added that what is more worrying is that some of the contracts offered to 'The Bawumia Brothers' were military contracts, which points to a serious issue of conflict of interest because the vice president is the chairperson of the Ghana Armed Forces Council.
"Further analysis of contracts awarded to Resources Access Limited points to a disturbing trend of apparent conflict of interest. The Vice President chairs the Ghana Armed Forces Council, and then it turns out that contracts awarded for the rehabilitation of military roads at the Teshie Camp, Southern Command, and the Military Academy Training Schools (MATS) are all awarded to the almighty Resources Access Limited, owned by the Vice President’s brother, Abraham Bawumia.
"No Vice President and Chair of the Ghana Armed Forces Council in Ghana's entire history has engaged in this deplorable conduct," he said.
