About 1,500 people benefit from Atwima Mutual Health Insurance Scheme

Nkawie (Ash.), June 9, GNA - The Atwima Mutual Health Insurance Scheme has so far spent a total of 212.7 million cedis in medical costs of 1,500 of the scheme's contributors. The Health Insurance has been in operation in the two districts since April 2004.

Mr James Agyarko Poku, the Manager, who made this known to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkawie, said 90,412 contributors had registered with the scheme.

Of the number, 11,526 had been issued with cards. He said 2,126 of the card holders are old people, aged 70 years and above, 1,586 being dependants, with 3,147 as Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) contributors and the remaining 4,667, being fully paid private contributors. Mr Poku said contributors could access a total of 17 approved health facilities.
