Accident free yuletide recorded in Oguaa

Cape Coast, Dec 26, GNA- The Cape Coast municipality did not record any motor accidents before and during the yuletide. Mr Charles Oduro, Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic Unit (MTU) who made this known to the GNA in an interview on Tuesday at Cape Coast, said this was the second year in succession that the municipality recorded no motor accident during the Yuletide. He attributed the success story to the regular road safety education to drivers on over speeding, overloading, drink drive and to maintain their vehicles coupled with intensified road patrols in the town.

The Regional Commander commended the drivers and the executives of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) for effectively making use of the education they acquired, which has resulted in an accident free Christmas. He was hopeful that there would not be any accident during the celebration of the New Year and urged drivers to regularly maintain their vehicles especially their tyres and ensure that they observe all road signs and regulations.

Mr Oduro called on pedestrians to report recalcitrant drivers to either the police or the GPRTU for the necessary action to be taken and urged them to make sure that they board vehicles at designated lorry parks. He also advised them not to engage drivers in unnecessary arguments and conversations, which distracts their attention leading to accidents.

The commander gave the assurance that his outfit would continue with its road patrols and road safety education to help reduce accidents in the region.
