A statement issued in Accra by the Corporate Affairs Department of Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), said the decision to lead the initiative was declared at the 2019 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum held in Geneva, Switzerland.

It said the decision was made during an official engagement between Mr Alexander Ntoko, the Chief of Operations and Planning Department, Telecommunication Standardization Bureau of ITU, Abraham Kofi Asante, Chief Executive Officer of GIFEC and Board Chairman of the Accra Digital Centre, and Eric Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, the Managing Director of ADC.

The statement quoted Mr Ntoko as saying that; “ITU has accepted the initiative by Ghana and that a Memorandum of Understanding would be signed between ITU and ADC for the Smart Incubator Programme to commence.”

The ITU Smart Incubator Programme purposely designed to assist and support technology-oriented entrepreneurs and start-ups in the early development stages, including Artificial Intelligence, Blockchain and Internet of Things.

The ITU Smart Incubator was launched in September, 2018, at the ITU Telecommunications World in Durban, South Africa.
