Accra, Jan. 24, GNA - The Accra-East branch of the Rotary Club has announced a 4000 Ghana Cedis sponsorship package to the Street Academy to enhance educational activities. The package includes the renovation of the main classroom, educational materials (books) and the construction of library for the school.
Ms. Jane Cole, Spokesperson of the Club, who announced the package on Saturday, said their action was motivated by their quest to meet the needs of society. She said the club, made of professionals is devoted to the support for the needy in society, hence the donation to the Street Academy to improve the conditions of the pupils.
Ms. Cole expressed confidence that the educational materials and the library will be beneficial to the pupils of the academy, adding' "This is just the beginning and we will do more to support the school. "We (Rotary club) are committed to giving back to society, and this is one of many ways of achieving that." Ataa Lartey, founder of the Street Academy commended the Club for their kind gesture which, he said, will augment teaching and learning in the school. The Academy, founded in 1986 provides education at no cost to children living on the street and many who are not in school for various reasons. The school currently has a pupil population of 460, with over 300 of them in formal schools.
