President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has pledged his government’s commitment to ensuring that a direct railway line from Accra to Ouagadougou is duly launched to facilitate the movement of goods and services between both countries.
Mr Akufo-Addo said this when he paid a two-day working visit to Burkina Faso. According to him, the railway network, if accomplished, will be the highlight of his presidency.
“The relations between the people of Burkina Faso and Ghana go back several centuries. One of the most important of the regional projects especially in the area of infrastructure and especially of transportation, will be for me, perhaps, the highlight of my presidency, if, indeed, I was to be able to, together with you, launch the beginning of the Accra-Ouagadougou railway project,” he stated.
“Our commitment to it is made clearer by the fact that I decided right in the beginning of my government to establish a special ministry for railway development in Ghana… I will be very disappointed if the two sides are unable to find a solution to how we could get the Accra-Ouagadougou railway going.”
To this end, the two countries have agreed to reactivate the Joint Expert Committee to examine the various feasibility studies already undertaken, and define the modalities and conditions of the selection of a technical and financial partner for the project.
