Accra beaches saw massive security presence

Accra, Dec. 27, GNA – Beaches in Greater Accra on Boxing Day December 26th were packed with heavy security presence to ensure peace and safety among holiday merry makers.

The Ghana News Agency's visit to popular beaches such as the Labadi Beach, La Palm Beach and Dansoman Beach saw large number of security personnel who have been deployed to ensure that beachfront owners and merrymakers adhered to law and order.

In Ghana, Boxing Day celebration over the past years had been characterized by stampedes at events and drowning at beaches largely due to the number of people who often go to swim.

Constable Patrick Tetteh Quarshie told the GNA that their presence was to aid beachfront owners to step up security in order to ensure the safety of lives and property.

He said they would do everything in their capacity to control the large number of people at the beaches to protect life and property this festive season.

Constable Quarshie called on beach authorities to always cooperate peacefully with the security forces so as to ensure a peaceful celebration.

Some merrymakers expressed happiness over the high security presence and hoped it was maintained for subsequent holidays at the beach.
