As road safety becomes an increasingly pressing concern in Accra, motorists are sounding the alarm over the alarming trend of disappearing white road markings on the city's streets.
These markings play a crucial role in guiding drivers and ensuring safe navigation, yet many have faded or completely vanished, leading to a rise in traffic accidents and fatalities.
Theophilus Gyamera, a commercial motorist in Accra, has raised serious concerns about this issue.
In a recent interview conducted by GhanaWeb's videographer, Kwame Adzaho-Amenortor, he warned that the absence of these essential road markings poses a significant threat to road users.
Gyamera explained that when these road markings are present and clearly visible, they greatly assist drivers, especially those who understand their importance.
“The absence of white road markings poses significant concerns for motorists, particularly those unfamiliar with certain road signs. These markings facilitate safe navigation, guiding drivers through unfamiliar territories and alerting them to adjust speed limits when approaching towns or cities,” he said.
“For experienced drivers, clear road signs and markings reduce the stress of driving by providing crucial information to prevent unexpected situations. However, the lack of white road markings can lead to abrupt braking, increasing the risk of accidents. Many of us, as motorists, are worried about the absence of white road markings on our roads,” he added.
The absence of these crucial indicators not only increases the risk of accidents but also adds to the stress of navigating Accra's streets.
This issue highlights the urgent need for action to ensure road safety in the capital.
