Achiase Methodist School realises 7.2 million cedis from harvest

Achiase (Ash), March 24, GNA - Mr Richard Owusu-Agyemang, an Assistant Director of Education, has said the increasing spate of indiscipline and lawlessness among students is a serious set back to the government's commitment to improve education.

He said the inability of some parents and guardians to exercise effective control and supervision over their children is a major cause of indiscipline and lawlessness in some schools.

Mr Owusu-Agyemang, who is at the Atwima-Nwabiagya District Education Directorate, was speaking at a fund-raising harvest organised by the Achiase Methodist Basic School in aid of the construction of a school block at Achiase near Asuofua on Wednesday. He said some parents pay little attention to their children and also pamper them to such an extent that they become swollen headed, disrespectful and disobedient.

Mr Owusu-Agyemang condemned the attitude of some pupils who frequently patronise video and other social centres and engage in gambling, smoking, sexual promiscuity, alcoholism and other vices. He suggested guidance and counselling be stepped up in schools to enable the pupils realise their full potentials for better future.

Mr Owusu-Agyemang appealed to school management committees and parent/teacher associations to take measures to curb the persistent defecation in the classrooms and the use of school premises by some unscrupulous persons to engage in hard drugs peddling and other negative acts.

About 7.2 million cedis was realised at the function.
