Achiase to get more water supply

Achiase (E/R), Dec. 27, GNA – Dr Kwasi Akyem Ape-Kubi, the Eastern Regional Minister, has said he is not involved in the process leading to the disruption of water supply to the Achiase township.

He said the flow of portable water in Achiase stopped as a result of the malfunctioning of the automatic switch on the pumping machine that sends water from the new borehole in Achiase to the overhead tank for supply to the public stand pipes.

Dr Apea-Kubi said this when speaking at a Christmas reception that he organized for old men and women of Achiase.

He appealed to politicians to stop spreading falsehood about others adding that as at the year 2000, water flowing through the eight stand pipes in Achiase was pumped from a borehole in Akim Swedru which dried up somewhere in 2001 and efforts to drill new bore holes near the Jungle Warfare Military Training Institute never materialized.

He said early this year when he became the Eastern Regional Minister, he raised the water concern with the Ghana Water Company and two boreholes were drilled at the Achiase town and a test was conducted to see if the existing pipelines in the area were in good condition.

Dr Apea-Kubi said it was during the test round that the water flowed through the pipes in the township until the failure of the automatic switch on the water pump.

He said his vision for the town was to get the two boreholes in township connected to the overhead tank to supply the Achiase township and to increase the number of stand pipes in the area from eight to 25.

Dr Apea-Kubi said he want the two boreholes near the Jungle Warfare Training Institute to be activated and used to supply portable water to communities around the area and also get another borehole near the Achiase Senior High School to supply water to the school and the communities around the area.

Nana Baafour Takyi, Birim South District Chief Executive called on the people in the constituency to vote for people who would help bring development to the area.

He said through the efforts of the Eastern Regional Minister, the Achiase Senior High School is to benefit from the construction of two dormitories, one for the boys and the other for the girls, a kitchen and a dining hall and a two story classroom block which had been awarded on contract.
