The Acting Inspector General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh, has directed the immediate interdiction of two police officers spotted in a viral video torturing a man in their custody.

General Sergeant Patrick Amoako and General Lance Corporal Isaac Marfo were seen using belts to beat a man accused by his employer of stealing GH¢1,600.

The video, said to have been shot by the complainant, has stirred public outrage regarding the maltreatment of the suspect by the police officers.

But before the furore gets out of hand, the top hierarchy of the police has invoked its punitive powers by interdicting the officers.

“The Police Administration is urging the public to exercise caution in the spreading of the video since the Police has begun investigation into the case,” a statement from the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service said.

The incident happened at the Railways Police Station in Koforidua, the Eastern Region capital.
