Former Ghanaian actress, Ebi Bright has picked up nomination forms to contest for the up-coming Tema Central constituency primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

After her approval by the party’s vetting committee in Accra, on Thursday, the aspirant who held the ticket in 2016 and also works in the communication team of former President Jerry John Rawlings said, “It is now time to build and sustain improved party structures to properly engage our constituents and allow more interactions between our leadership and the grassroots. We, however, need to be patient with this process, if it should yield the expected results.”

Ms. Ebi Bright was addressing her teeming supporters and the press soon after receiving approval from the vetting committee.

Ms. Bright said she eagerly looked forward to stronger unity under the umbrella family, and stressed that the biggest lessons for her from 2016 was that “they can only defeat us when we are divided”.

The 2016 aspirant, popular talk show host and actress, stressed that the party was more likely to be unified particularly, “when Comrades in Tema Central are proud of their identity as members of the Akatakmanso family and when we integrate and inter-relate in peace”.

She pledged unflinching commitment towards building a formidable base for the NDC in the Constituency. In this regard she professed a research-based activism that will target community and branch leadership in owning the campaign process while pushing for increased interactions between and among leadership and grassroots.

“As long as we can identify each and everyone who is our member; as long as we can identify each and everyone that can be our sympathiser and as long as we can put all of these together, this is the way forward and we will do it”, the Tema Central aspirant affirmed.

She also looks to leverage the party’s current high visibility and presence in Tema Central to engage community leaders in providing community-focused leadership towards addressing 5 key areas of community concern – Education; Health, Sanitation and Social protection; Agriculture, Livelihoods, and Job Creation; Youth and Sports Development; Creative Arts, Tourism, and Culture.

Her professed political vision is to see a Tema Central “where the NDC is the preferred political affiliation – equipped across structures, to provide credible, inclusive and innovative representation in parliament.”

Her fans and other party activists who thronged the venue received her clearance and her place on the ballot with rousing support and jubilation as they carried her shoulder high out of the vetting centre to meet the press.
