When the chiefs and elders of the Ada Traditional Council (ATC) in the Dangme East District of the Greater Accra Region paid a courtesy call on President Kufuor at the Castle on August 28, last year, the Paramount Chief for the area, Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, was nowhere to be found.
Though an explanation was given that the chief was indisposed on the day of the courtesy call, five months after the visit, the GHANAIAN CHRONICLE reports that Nene Akuaku was kidnapped in the early hours from his palace that fateful day.
Some elements with interests in the Songhor Lagoon, on August 28 last year, kidnapped the chief early from his residence at Ada and sent him to the Central Region.
The Paramount Chief was supposed to lead the ATC during the courtesy call on the President at the Castle.
Insiders, however, say that the kidnapping of the chief became the last resort because those who hatched it thought the visit to the Castle by the ATC would finalise a plan for the government to gain control over and develop the Songhor Lagoon since they (the plotters) had a different agenda for the lagoon, the paper learnt.
