A group of armed robbers stormed Adabraka, a suburb of the nation's capital, Accra, on Saturday, 2 November 2024.

Viral videos of the incident show at least five well-built men armed with various types of guns. The men can be seen firing shots into the air as they load confiscated items, including bags of money, into a saloon car. They are also seen ordering a man in a black singlet, who had his hands raised, around.

CCTV Footage of the Event

CCTV footage captured how a gang of armed robbers raided a jewellery shop in Adabraka, Accra, and made off with sacks of money. In the footage, some men are seen loading what appears to be bags of cash into a parked saloon car.

Shortly after the car starts moving, a 4x4 vehicle cuts in front of it. Suddenly, armed men in masks wielding AK-47s and other guns emerge from the 4x4 vehicle and attack the driver and a passenger in the saloon car, seizing all the sacks of cash from their vehicle.

In several online videos, the robbers can also be seen firing a warning shot and tossing money into the air, likely to cover their escape.

Police on Manhunt

The Ghana Police Service has launched a manhunt following the robbery. In a statement issued on 2 November 2024, police confirmed that the incident involved a group of armed men targeting a jewellery shop and injuring at least one person during their attack.

The police have pledged to capture the robbers.

“The Police are on a manhunt for a gang of armed robbers who attacked a jewellery shop at Adabraka in Accra on Saturday 2nd November 2024 where one person was injured,” the statement read. It concluded, “We would like to assure the public that we will surely get them and bring them to face justice.”

Member of Parliament Speaks

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Korle Klottey, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman Rawlings, responded to the incident, which occurred within her constituency.

The MP expressed concern over the rising number of armed robbery attacks in the area, noting that this incident was the second in less than four months at the same location. Dr. Rawlings stated that she would discuss the issue with relevant security authorities to implement measures to reduce these attacks.

“I in turn follow up with the Ministry of Interior and the National Security with regards to what is happening here. We assure people in the community without ensuring that their security is guaranteed I don’t think it’s enough,” Dr. Rawlings said.
