The Minister of Energy has refuted claims by member of the Mines and Energy Committee of Parliament, Adam Mutawakilu suggesting the Energy Ministry did not send any letter to the PURC to reduce electricity tariffs.
According to Boakye Agyarko, it was unfortunate for a member of the Energy Committee who is expected to have access to every information and document on developments in the sector to “intentionally” restrict himself from doing so.
“Adam Mutawakilu has ample opportunity to verify documents or information but he has chosen not to. He even has the power to summon me to parliament for such verification and failing to do so is an abrogation of responsibility to his committee and to the people of this country,” he said.
“It is preposterous for the ranking member to assume that because he does not know it is false. The ministry sent the proposal to the PURC on November 17, 2017,” he added.
Mr. Agyarko further explained that the PURC has responded to the proposal, charging the MP for Asawase Constituency to request for copies and read.
“He is welcome to copies of PURC’s response because he is an officer of parliament and the state and he is entitled to it,” he maintained.
