Adansi East teachers to advise themselves

New Edubiase (Ash), Aug 4, GNA - Teachers in the Adansi East District have said "they would advise themselves" if the disparity in their salaries with their colleagues in other parts of the country was not immediately corrected.

The teachers said the Ghana Education Service (GES) conditions of service automatically puts teachers salaries one point ahead on the 1st September of every year.

They said they had noticed that some of their colleagues had been at level 10 point 02 since 2002, when they should have been at level 10 point 04 this year.

The teachers, who issued the threat at a meeting they had with officials of the District Education Directorate at New Edubiase, said the development had seriously affected their purchasing power making life very difficult for them.

The group said due to the anomaly, their colleagues in the district with whom they completed training college were receiving higher salaries.

The teachers also asked the GES to speed up the process of paying course fees to teachers doing the distance education programme. Mr Charles Boateng, the Adansi East District Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), appealed to the teachers to exercise restraint and assured them that the association was working hard to get the anomaly rectified.
