Tema, March 20, GNA -- The Tema branch of the Adansi Koroye Kuo has expressed concern about the poor state of streets in the Obuasi township and appealed to the government to help repairs them.
Nana Akore Agyeman, Chairman of the Association who made the call at the 32nd anniversary celebrations of the Association, regretted that streets in Obuasi, a rich gold mining township, are so bad that driving on them has become a problem.
He said Obuasi is playing a major role in the economic development of the country and must not be neglected. Nana Akore Agyeman said even though a contract to rehabilitate the streets was awarded four years ago and it is being claimed that about 50 percent of the repair works had been completed one can hardly see it.
He announced that the Association has instituted a scholarship scheme for bright but needy students from the area adding that two students in senior secondary schools are already benefiting from the scheme.
Mr Kwasi Afrifa, MP for Fomena urged citizens from the area to bury their political differences and unite under their various unions for the development of the area. Mrs Joyce Baffoe, MP for new Edubiase called on the unions to interact with their MPs to discuss development programmes.
She explained the essence of the impending Population and Housing census and the re-opening of the Voters Register and advised the people to co-operate with officials to make both exercises successful.
