Add discipline to Child Rights Education - Adzei Annan

The Council of State, has called on child rights activists to involve discipline in their education and advocacy work.

Mr Annan said there was the need for that addition as the current campaign only promoted children's rights without educating them on their responsibilities.

He made the call at a photo exhibition organised by the Tema Chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association to promote good environmental practices among students.

According to him, concentrating only on the promotion of human rights would only create more problems in future.

He stated, for instance, that some children were hiding behind programmes against child labour not to do their house chores or help their parents in ways that were not detrimental to them.

He said Ghanaians must appreciate that every right had its corresponding responsibility as well has limitations, therefore, no right was absolute.

Mr Annan said children must be taught to be responsible from childhood for this to reflect in their adulthood.

He, therefore, urged the youth to see it as a responsibility to keep their environment clean.

He said it was sad to see educated people littering and polluting the streets and drains.

The Council of State Member reiterated that Ghanaians must know that keeping their environment clean would benefit the entire nation.
