Residents of Adoagyir, Akwamu, Owuraku and Ntoaso in the Eastern Region yesterday morning demonstrated against the former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings claiming that she has illegally given out their lands to KOANS Estate without their knowledge.
According to the angry residents, “we feel cheated over the act since no consultation was done to that effect”.
According to them, on 22nd February, 1977 the erstwhile Supreme Military Council compulsorily acquired a land by executive instrument E.I 31 State Lands (Nsawam site for Pineapple production) instrument, 2977 containing an approximate area of 635.20 acres at Nsawam in the Eastern region.
But the residents claimed that they were being constantly terrorised by land guards since KOANS estate was given the Lands by the former first lady.
They described the situation as pathetic and scary.
The residents also presented a petition to the municipal Chief Executive for the area demanding that the former First Lady surrender their lands to them or face a series of action against her.
Nana Amoako Ampong the Dwantoahene who led the demonstrators said the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) government failed to retrieve their lands from Mrs. Rawlings despite several petitions to the NDC administration.
He added that they had given the current government a one-week ultimatum to retrieve their lands, and return it to them, sack all the land guards from the area or face their wrath.
Meanwhile, the MCE, Isaac Kojo Buabeng has advised the residents to keep calm and allow the laws of the country to work.
