Techiman (Brong Ahafo), 24 Oct. The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) has instituted a ''food for work'' package for the Techiman district branch of Tree Farmers Association to encourage them in their afforestation programmes. For an initial period of three months, ADRA has approved a package of 120 bags of wheat, 80 bags of rice and a quantitym of maize flour as an incentive for the association. Mr Kofi Owusu-Achiaw, national chairman of the association announced this yesterday after the farmers had cleared weeds on their 12-acre tree plantation at Kenten, a suburb of Techiman. The plantation, which is part of the River Tano basin rehabilitation project of the association, has more than 12,000 trees including species such as Odum, Wawa, Teak, Lucinia, Ofram and Casia. Mr Owusu-Achiaw reiterated the need for enforcement of the ban on farming along river banks to prevent them from being polluted and dried up.
