Private legal practitioner Maurice Ampaw has called on the Judicial Council to advice President Akufo-Addo to direct the three commissioners of the Electoral Commission (EC) to step aside until investigations being conducted against them are over.
The commissioners, Charlotte Osei, Chairperson; Madam Georgina Opoku Amankwa, Deputy Commissioner in charge of Corporate Affairs and Amadu Sulley, Deputy Commissioner in Charge of Operations are being investigated over alleged abuse of power and corruption that has rocked the Commission.
Lawyer Maurice Ampaw in interview with Kwame Tutu on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm said “The Judicial Council has that mandate to advice the president. The council must look at the constitutional impunity ongoing at the EC and the kind of political attacks coming from both ends and the confusion it is creating in the minds of Ghanaians”.
He added that “with immediate effect, the Council must convey and advice the President to immediately suspend all of them. They should go home.’’
‘’In my humble opinion, they should let them stay at home because we are investigating their conduct and actions. That will bring finality to the matter,’’ he concluded.
