Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has called for an outright dismissal of the Chairman for the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan.
Labeling him as an “irresponsible public official”, Hon. Kofi Jumah stated that the desirable punishment for Dr. Afari-Gyan is to see him fired by the president.
According to him, it is even an understatement for any critic to call for his resignation.
Addressing his concerns in a tape recording on Radio Gold, the NPP stalwart asserted that Dr. Afari-Gyan, since his 21-year administration of the Electoral Office, has never held unquestionable elections, but rather exhibited gross incompetence in his duties.
“The position of Electoral Commissioner is so vital to our democracy, which we shouldn’t toy with. You should not only be neutral in any situation but you must be seen as being neutral…The guy (Dr. Afari-Gyan) is an irresponsible public official.”
Also, in his estimation, Ghana is not a democratic State due to the blunders committed by the Electoral Commissioner.
