Afari-Gyan warned over voter registration exercise

A group calling itself, Election Vigilante Alliance (EVA), has warned the Electoral Commission (EC) to stop the planned voter registration exercise.

This was stated in a release issued yesterday in Accra and signed by its leaders including J.G Commando (EVA Commander,) Musa Ali (Northern Sector Command) and Soldier Danjuma (Field Marshall).

According to the group, it is sad institutions like the National Peace Council is saying nothing about activities of the EC.

The group noted that having monitored activities of the EC after the 2012 parliamentary and presidential elections, it was important Ghanaians woke up from their slumber “otherwise the EC will make the country a failed one.”

It further stated in the release that the EC is so “reluctant to listen to the various stakeholders on their call to audit the voters register,” adding that it is disappointed the “EC is not working according to the directives by the Supreme Court.”

The EC was directed by the Supreme Court to reform its electoral processes. “We dare the Commission to enter into any constituency to carry out such an exercise and we will sacrifice them [in order] to protect our dear country, Ghana,” the group warned.

EVA further warned security agencies to stop any electoral officer at any polling station from registering voters.

“This is a warning signal to any fake state security officer be it ‘Yaw Boateng Gyan Police, National Security or Military to desist from conspiring with the EC, else we have no option than to treat them as ‘Boko Haram,” the group further asserted.
