Minority Leader in Parliament Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin has praised the diplomatic skills of Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, describing them as being at their peak.
In an interview with Channel One TV on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 Afenyo-Markin acknowledged Ayariga's role in fostering dialogue and building consensus within Parliament.
His comments follow the Minority's initial decision to withhold approval for Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Minister-designate for Lands and Natural Resources.
The opposition had raised concerns about the nomination process, leading to tensions in the chamber.
However, Ayariga's intervention was pivotal in de-escalating the situation.
Commending Ayariga's approach, Afenyo-Markin highlighted his ability to engage in constructive discussions that led to a resolution.
"Ayariga's diplomacy is at its all-time best. He engaged in some useful discussions that led to the apology," he stated, emphasising that the Majority Leader's efforts were instrumental in fostering parliamentary cooperation.
The Appointments Committee of Parliament is still in the process of vetting President John Dramani Mahama’s nominees.
So far, the committee has unanimously recommended the approval of all the nominees who have been vetted.
