The Board Chairman of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin has assured Ghanaians of uninterrupted electricity supply.

This comes on the back of recent power outages across the country with some Civil Society Organizations in the power sector calling for the dissolution of the Electricity Company Board.

However, addressing the media on the matter, Mr. Afenyo-Markin supported the idea that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) could significantly improve its efficiency if it undergoes necessary reforms. “I believe the ECG can be very effective if we commit to implementing reforms,” he stated.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin stated that specific measures are being implemented, and the media will be updated with feedback on their decisions.

He assured the public that every positive initiative would be made to supervise and ensure an uninterrupted power supply. “The public can be assured that every effort will be made to ensure an uninterrupted supply of power,” he declared.

He further explained that the reforms would involve engaging all internal stakeholders and effectively communicating with external stakeholders.

Hon. Afenyo-Markin explained that the new board operates under a specific mandate and expressed his concern about the public blaming the government for the issues at hand, and vice versa, being the reason for his acceptance and support of the call for reforms.

“I don’t want this blame game approach. That we are blaming the public and the public is blaming us, because at the end of the day, the board has a mandate and there’s a management with the mandate to deliver.”
