There is unease in the camp of New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Effutu Alexander Afenyo Markin over opposition National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) decision to select a former financier of the NPP, Dr. James Kofi Annan as its candidate in Effutu.

The need for a new candidate arose following the resignation of one Lawyer Victor Yankson as the Parliamentary Candidate for the Effutu Constituency on the NDC‘s ticket after election. Dr. Kofi Annan was however accepted in a proclamation by party faithfuls in a ceremony at Windy Bay Hotel in Winneba as the new candidate for the party.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Annan thanked the party for the trust reposed in him and pledged to work hard to wrestle power from the NPP’s Afenyo Markin.

“I will not abuse the trust reposed in me, but I will uphold my dignity and credibility locally and globally. As members of the party, let’s rekindle the spirit of the party that together we will fight to be victorious”.

James Kofi Annan, a financier and staunch member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after months of uncertainty resigned from the NPP in February this year to join the opposition NDC.

Announcing the proclamation on his facebook wall, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Peter Otokunor wrote:

“The other day at the acclamation ceremony of the Parliamentary Candidate for Efutu Constituency, Dr. James Kofi Annan at the Windy Bay Hotel in Winneba. This ceremony followed the resignation of Lawyer Yankson and his subsequent pledge of support to Dr. Kofi Annan. #JohnMahama2020 #RescueMission #JMVictory2020”
