Aflao (V/R), July 31, GNA- Godwin Domien, 23, and Eric Agbenyadzi, 22, both from Dzodze in the Volta Region have been arrested by the police at Aflao when they attempted to sell a Toyota caravan taxi they snatched from its driver near Ashaiman on July 21.
A third suspect, Eric Seshie, 22, also from Dzodze who was serving as a front man looking for a buyer, is also in police grips. The Aflao District Crime Officer, Mr Baba Moro, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that Domien and Agbenyadzi hired the taxi driven by Paul Amoah at Ashaiman.
He said as they got to Ashaiman underpass Agbenyadzi who was sitting behind the driver hooked and pulled the driver's neck with a rope while Domien in the front seat controlled the taxi to a halt. Mr Moro said a colleague driver who attempted to assist Amoah was scared off when Domien pulled a gun and fired a shot. The suspects then threw the driver out of the vehicle and sped off with the car. He said Aflao police on July 26, found the taxi with its registration number plate replaced by a cardboard with the inscription on test displayed at its front and rear.
The Crime Officer said the police suspected the car might have been stolen and arrested the three.
He said following police messages sent out, Amoah called at the station, identified the car and the suspects and narrated his ordeal. Mr Moro said Domien and Agbenyadzi admitted the offence and mentioned Seshie as the one assisting them to get a buyer. He said the three suspects would be transferred to the Tema police for further investigations.
