Aflao chiefs ban June 4 celebration on their soil

The Chiefs and People of Aflao Traditional Area in the Volta region have expressed their disapproval and objection to the choice of the town for the celebration of the 33rd anniversary celebration of the June 4 uprising.

The chiefs in a press statement said the decision was made due to the lack of development in the Aflao township. According to them the ruling NDC government has failed to honour its promise made to the people of Aflao thus making it inappropriate for the town to host such a political celebration.

The statement also revealed that there is mounting pressures and agitations among the youth due the widespread under development in the Aflao Traditional area.

Meanwhile the office of the former President, Jerry John Rawlings is warning persons in government who are planning to disrupt this year’s June 4 celebration to stay away.

Spokesperson for the Rawlingses, Kofi Adam told Citi News in an interview that they have information that some government officials are mobilizing people to disrupt the June 4 event.**
