Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare, a US-based legal practitioner and accounting professor popularly known on Facebook as Kwaku Azar has accused the Attorney General’s Department of embarking on a shopping spree in the courts of Ghana just for favours.

Reacting to the latest decision by an Accra High Court to deny Mr. Gregory Afoko bail, he stated that it is now a formal repudiation of the Constitution’s liberty provisions and a return to the PDA.

Kwaku Azar who earlier spoke against the filing of a Nolle Prosequi said the AG abandoned the trial of the accused because they did a bad job in linking Mr Afoko to the murder of Adams Mahama, a Former Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“It is much more complicated than guilty or not guilty. There are procedural protections, one of which is that you cannot go forward with a trial and then abandon it when you think it is not going your way so you can later on go after the defendant,” he said in an earlier post.

In his latest series of posts, he said, “So we have a ministry of justice whose conception of justice is to ignore a court order when it does not like it and to shop around the high courts until it finds a judge who can give it what it wants. Da Yie!”

In another, he added “Allowing the Republic to shop around the high courts until it procures the verdict that it desires is not justice. It is a formal repudiation of the Constitution’s liberty provisions and a return to the PDA. Da Yie!”
