Afoko unfazed by NPP gag efforts

Paul Afoko Paul Afoko

Suspended New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman Paul Afoko has said he is not perturbed by attempts to prevent him from granting media interviews.

This follows an application by lawyers for the party at an Accra High Court to compel Mr Afoko to cease commentary on his suspension by the party until the final determination of the case in court.

But Mr Afoko’s spokesperson, Nana Yaw Osei, speaking to Class News Thursday March 24, said the party cannot force Mr Afoko to do their bidding.

“He is not perturbed at all. He will continue to speak his mind. The issue is still before the court, and so they [the NPP] should not, with all respect, lie about issues,” he stated.

“Afoko has done no such thing to take over a matter that is before a court of competent jurisdiction and seek to try the matter in the media. He has done no such thing.

“You are threatening to cite him for contempt; you can go ahead. …It is not about what they feel, it is not about their feeling. If you feel that it will affect the matter in court, that is your thinking. Besides, Mr Afoko feels that he is not commenting on any matter before the court, so, they can go ahead and experience their feelings, but that will not stop Mr Afoko from explaining his side of the story, which is not before the court.”
